Sickle Cell Voice of India is a public awareness campaign operated by the Sickle Cell Welfare Society, Chhattisgarh. Its objective is to increase awareness about the physical disability and social challenges associated with sickle cell disease, in order to help achieve the goal of the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission 2047.
Under the health initiatives of the Government of India, campaigns have previously been successfully conducted against diseases such as HIV/AIDS, leprosy, tuberculosis, malaria, smallpox, and most recently COVID-19, leading to significant victories over these conditions. However, sickle cell disease is different from these illnesses. It has existed for thousands of years.
While most diseases affect only the individual patient, sickle cell disease impacts not just the patient but also affects entire families and communities across generations. It causes physical, mental, economic, and social challenges.
From the inclusion of sickle cell disease under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, to the launch of the National Sickle Cell Elimination Mission 2047, nearly an entire generation of those working to spread awareness about sickle cell has already passed.
Therefore, to overcome sickle cell disease, it is essential for everyone to come together, build understanding, and adopt the Government of India’s mission as a collective mission for society.
To build awareness about Sickle Cell Disease, provide support to affected families, and work towards prevention through education and screening programs.
A future where every individual has access to proper healthcare, knowledge, and support for living a healthy and empowered life.
